Academic Ambition: London Law Trip
The Academic Ambition group interested in Law, visited The Law Society in London
Potential future SWPS Lawyers meeting a Perkonian currently studying Law at University.
This week 20 potential SWPS lawyers of the future visited the heart of legal London, and were privileged to meet and talk with two very eminent lawyers.
The first was Christina Blacklaws, who is president-elect of the Law Society. The promotion of women in the legal profession is her major theme as president, and she was very inspiring by example and by her advice and encouragement.
We then walked around the corner to the highest courts in England and Wales, the Royal Courts of Justice. Here we were very honoured indeed to have a private audience with our most senior judge, Lord Chief Justice Burnett, in his own workplace, Court 4. He told us about his own journey to where he is now, and about his daily life. He was passionate about the Rule of Law and very encouraging and inspiring.
Our final treat was a question and answer session with Perkonian, Marija Nonkovic (Co2014), who had joined us for the afternoon, and very kindly gave our pupils some very current advice about studying Law at university (she is in her final year at KCL).
